Zorin Vladimir / etching, eau forte

Etching captured Vladimir’s imagination many years ago.
Although the artist mastered watercolors and drawing, lithography and painting,
etching is the call of his heart.

In 1987 Vladimir began creating his etches.
His first works were in aquatint technique.
Later, he added stroke technique,
which gave a more finished and expressive look to his works.
Since then, the Artist has been honing his skills and has reached perfection.

Etching is not a quick process.
The Artist makes a lot of watercolors, storing all his thoughts on paper.
Furthermore, dozens of photographs can be made
in an attempt to catch the required feeling of the space and time.

There are a few themes which appeal to the Artist, and Moscow tops the list.
Perhaps, it is because the Artist was born in Moscow and studied there.
An architect by education, he is impressed with old Moscow style.
His works show quiet lanes and squares, oftentimes with churches.
Vladimir thinks that churches preserve the old spirit of Moscow
and pass it to the new generation as a symbol of firm faith.
Besides, churches attract with their unique architecture.
More than 30 etches comprise his Moscow collection,
of which most works are miniatures
(size 5 to 7 cm / 2 to 3 inches).

The other major theme is provincial Russia
in which the Artist does not show touristy places.
Instead, he reveals the less known Russia.
Although he shows half-ruined temples and rickety houses,
there is not sadness in such pictures -
only its own life and beauty.

Vladimir has travelled a lot in Russia,
and the theme of the Russian landscape takes an important place in his life.
Silent and dignified beauty of our nature
and its centuries-long monumentalism and tranquility astound the Artist.
