"Up to 7 years old all children paint well, if a child continues surprising people with his drawings after this age,
"the child need education”, these are the words of Vitaly Valtsev, professor at Art Academy and my grandfather.
Judging by the fact that after this age I remember myself with the brush in my hands, I was the one who showed some hope.

When I was six years old, I joined the Art Studio at the Pioneer House, at the age of 10 I started individual lessons with the teacher,
and then I became a student of Art School at the Institute named after Repin.
At that time I was under the influence from my father. Oftentimes he painted state orders and worked on historic paintings for a long time.
My father was painting “The heroism of Young Guardians” and I did the same. He “explored” the Far East with Erofey Khabarov,
and I learned something new with him, transferring on to the paper child’s impressions.
By my entering the Art School, I had had quite a lot of knowledge and my own preferences.

To be born and to live in Leningrad is a gift from the Fate for a future Artist.
History of the city, glory of palaces, museums and people whose creative lives are connected with the city on the Neva -
all this inspired a boy walking under the led sky towards his future deeds.
My teacher at the Art School was Vladislav Senchukov, a person whose goal in life
was teaching and who brought up many generations of Artists.
He was a high educated and careful teacher who led us on the way of creative growth.
And in these first years the basement of personality formation, the taste and thirst for knowledge are created.

Much time was devoted to the watercolors, but the desire for experiments and artistic temperament did not leave me in peace.
First tempera, then oils conquered me. Variety of possibilities and textures was breathtaking.
Although, my first years had some bad experiments as well. There were many advisors and the skills come with the experience
and my first success came to me only at the Art Academy which I entered after Art School.

I was lucky to see the great artists at the Academy, such as V. Reihet, A. Mylnikov, V, PImenov, V Sokolov and others.
Great masters of passing epoch of Soviet art carried the spirit of traditions and awed us.
They were the students of the Masters of the beginning of the 20th century and connected us with them.

First two years I was hesitating in my choice, but then I decided to study at Sokolov’s workshop.
Juicy painting and solid drawing of his students, bright performances
and authority of the teacher caused the hoy and will for work and proof.
Education at the Academy went fast and provided with the knowledge we came out.
A new life of Artists was waiting for us - life full of discoveries and disappointments,
sorrows and victories but nevertheless such an interesting life."
